The UNPOG Public Governance Quarterly

Welcome Note
Since its relocation to Songdo in 2017, United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), part of the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) has expanded its activities in terms of volume and quality as a result of conducting 6 research activities, 10 capacity development activities, and 34 networking and outreach activities in 2018. UNPOG/DPIDG is working as one across the Division and with other UN to strengthen public administration capacities for the SDGs.

In the first quarter of 2019, UNPOG/DPIDG has conducted a greater volume of activities than in the first quarter of 2018. In 23-24 January 2019, UNPOG/DPIDG/UN DESA co-organized a learning conference in collaboration with UN ESCAP, UNITAR and CIFAL Shanghai with the support of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. The conference included the participation of  99 government, civil society, and private sector representatives from 21 countries from both Asia- Pacific and African regions.

The project office together with UNISDR's Global Education and Training Institute (GETI) and UN ESCAP's Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development ( APCICT) also organized a webinar on Government Innovation and Disaster Risk Reduction: Frontier Technologies for Resilience on 27 March 2019. The webinar was attended by over 100 participants from around the world – especially from government institutions.

A Study visit on Advancing E-Government Development for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was organized from 1 to 5 April 2019. The visit was organized as a follow-up to UN DESA’s Development Account Project in Bangladesh and Ethiopia in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of the Republic of Korea. Fifteen middle and high-level government officials from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Ethiopia, Lao PDR, and Uganda attended the study visit.

UNPOG has continued to raise its visibility in the region by actively participating in a range of outreach activities in Korea and abroad. In 2019, the office will continue to strengthen its outreach and partnerships to continue delivering as one to strengthen public institution capacities for the SDGs.
