Korea’s 6th Local Autonomy Exhibition
For the second time, UNPOG participated in Korea’s Local Autonomy Exhibition on October 29-31, 2018 in Gyeongju. The exhibition was organized by MOIS, the government agency in charge of promoting local autonomy and decentralization. The exhibition was held in celebration of ‘Local Government Day’ where local governments were invited to share and demonstrate successful practices of public administration in their respective regions. In addition to sharing their best policy practices, representatives of local governments also raised awareness on the role of local autonomy in strengthening citizen engagement and provision of citizen-centered services.
UNPOG participated in this event with the aim of apprising local governments of their critical roles in addressing local challenges in SDG implementation. The UNPOG booth also held an interactive Q&A session with the public to raise awareness on the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. The exhibition was attended by the President of Republic of Korea, Mr. Moon Jae-in, to support local governments through regional development strategies and economic growth
