Shaping Public Service Mindsets in the Asia-Pacific Region for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – Report of the Survey to Map Current Curricula of Civil Service on the SDGs
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Division of Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), is convening a global network of public administration schools, civil service colleges and similar training institutions on the topic of Shaping Public Service Mindsets for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Baseline survey research has been conducted from April-May 2018 to map where the region’s public administration schools and civil service colleges stand on training public administration for the 2030 Agenda. Similar research is ongoing in Africa and Latin America. For the Asia-Pacific region, this process is being led by UN DESA's Project Office on Governance (UNPOG) based in South Korea. As a first step, a survey was conducted among regional public administration schools and civil service colleges to collect baseline data on the current status of training public administration officials on the 2030 Agenda in Asia-Pacific. Sixteen countries in the Asia-Pacific region responded to this survey and shared their current practices, future plans, and priorities in educating future civil servants on the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda: Bhutan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Samoa, Vanuatu, Brunei, Thailand, Viet Nam, Myanmar, Mongolia, China, Republic of Korea, Singapore, , and Japan. UNPOG developed a new report to identify current trends and good practices of the region's schools, as well as potential future training curricula models to be presented at the UN Public Service Forum in June 2018.
