I. Training of Trainers Workshop on Effective National to Local Public Governance for SDG Implementation in
Cambodia (May 10-17, 2022)
The National School of Local Administration (NASLA) of Cambodia, in collaboration with UN DESA, through DPIDG and with the support of UNPOG, and with the support of the UNCT in Cambodia and UNDP Cambodia, successfully conducted the five-day Training of Trainers (TOT) Workshop on “Effective National to Local Public Governance for SDG Implementation in Cambodia”, which was held from 10 to 17 May 2022 at UNDP Cambodia Country Office. The Workshop invited 17 officials from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Planning and Provincial Administrations of Cambodia. The Workshop aimed to strengthen public institutions to facilitate a more coherent implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development while supporting integrated public governance, including planning, policymaking and finance practices, between national and local authorities. The Workshop focused on strengthening public institutions through the whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches for SDG implementation, localizing the SDGs and reporting and monitoring & evaluation of the progress of SDG implementation. On 4 June 2022, one DPIDG/UNPOG staff was invited to participate in the ITU Generation Connect Global Youth Summit 2022 and deliver a thematic presentation on “Digital Technologies for Promoting Youth Participation in Public Governance: Opportunities & Challenges" during the virtual session “Masterclass #5: In the shoes of a digital policymaker”. The Session discussion was centered on five thematic focuses of the Internet Governance Forum 2022, i.e., i) Connecting all people and safeguarding human rights; ii) Avoiding Internet fragmentation; iii) Governing data and protecting privacy; iv) Enabling safety, security and accountability; and v) Addressing advanced technologies, including AI. VII. Participation in the Virtual International Conference on Challenges to Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilient Habitat

At the request of the Centre for Disaster Management Studies of University of Delhi Sheikh Sarai, Phase II, DPIDG/UNPOG delivered a keynote speech at the International Conference on Challenges to Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilient Habitat via Zoom on 5 April 2022. The speech entitled “Risk-informed Governance for the SDGs Implementation” discussed topics on emerging challenges and impact of COVID-19 pandemic and climate crisis on the SDGs, effective governance for disaster risk reduction and the implementation of SDGs, and policy implications and key takeaways. The conference was attended by 230 participants who are professionals, academics, and university students. The event also provided a good opportunity to promote the UN DESA/DPIDG’s Curriculum on Governance for the SDGs. For more details about the event, click here.

X. 2022 UNPOG Steering Committee Meeting (13 April 2022)

The 2022 Steering Committee Meeting was held successfully on 13 April 2022 in New York. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Juwang Zhu, Director of DPIDG, and attended by representatives from DPIDG/PMCDU, CDPMO, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the UN. As an ex-officio member, the Head of UNPOG delivered a presentation on UNPOG’s activities and achievements in 2021, the proposed mid-term strategy and 2022 Workplan.
