At the invitation of the United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) of DSDG, two (2) DPIDG/UNPOG staff virtually attended and delivered presentations during the 2023 International Mayors Forum held from 25 to 28 April 2023 in Dakar, Senegal. The objective of the Forum is to provide a platform for policy dialogue and knowledge sharing on key aspects related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and other international development frameworks and agreements such as the Paris Agreement at the local level.
DPIDG/UNPOG staff delivered presentations and other interventions focused on "Disaster Risk Reduction through Risk-informed Development and Governance" and "The Whole-of-Government Approach".
In line with the 2023 High-Level Political Forum, the International Mayors Forum will support local authorities and communities to achieve a better understanding of success, lessons learned, and good practices needed to accelerate the recovery from multiple global crises including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and conflics for the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Forum provided a good opportunity to promote UN DESA's Curriculum on Governance for the Sustainable Development Goals.
